The Weekend with Family – The Real Post
Okay…so, I wasn’t focused on my last post. The weekend was still in progress at Chef and Ms B’s new home with Chef’s family, when Ms B egged me on coming up with a blog post for the day and joining them downstairs in the span of 2 minutes. Tall order, right?
So, here’s a more decent account on what has transpired during the weekend.

We packed for another weekend at Chef and B’s and, as planned, celebrated in our little way Captain Awesome’s 8th birthday. We brought some of the Filipino party staples – pansit (for long life), lumpia, suman and Red Ribbon’s delectable Moist Chocolate Cake (which turned out to be the weekend hit!).
With Chef’s instructions, I (applause, applause) prepared the gourmet ham and cheese snack [sans the ham…but it worked, nonetheless] for appetizers. Apparently, I “hold the knife wrong” that upon seeing me “work” in the kitchen, Chef said, “Wow! You really haven’t been here before, huh? Ms B is a chef compared to you.” Well, that is very much true.
So, Chef whipped up some pasta, B poured the wine from the decanter, we played some music and our little party for my not-so-little boy was on.
Later that night, we met Ms B’s friends in San Francisco (aaaahhh….civilization!!!) for some drinks. What was supposed to be a bar hopping shindig turned out to be a bar, err, sitting (?) at the W Hotel with just one drink each and a load of great laughs. I never realized how much I miss the no-poise yet classy Pinay humor and laughter until that night.
So…we heard mass on Sunday morning and waited for Chef’s family to arrive. They came in full force! We had whatever we can much on with glasses of wine while we wait for our late afternoon authentic Mexican cuisine fix – there were nachos, [super spicy] salsa, guacamole, ensalada, tortilla, quesadilla and carne asada. Everything was just delish!
It was overall a fun weekend with family. But as I’ve mentioned in my last post, this is the kind of gathering that make me want to have Um and the kids around. It’s really ironic how one can be around so many people yet feel all the more alone.
