The Day After Thanksgiving

…Is Black Friday!!!

I have celebrated four Thanksgivings here in the States, but I have never dared joining the Black Friday shopping craze. Sure, the insanely low prices have always tempted me, but I loved my comfort more than the money it promises to save. LOL.

People’s views on money have changed in the recent years. No matter how much the government and established financial institutions say that the economy is finally picking up, consumers are still reluctant on spending. Now that my entire family is here, shopping for four calls for making the most out of discounted prices! Besides, there is so much that this family from a tropical country need to get through the cold winter season.

Tita Baby (I believe Ms B used her real name in a previous post, so I guess this is OK :D ) and cousins wanted to check out the Black Friday Midnight Sale at the outlets in Ms B’s residential city, so Um and I went with them. As expected, the place was jam packed and parking was difficult. Hell, it took us almost an hour to find a spot! Some parts within the outlet compounds even had some sort of barricades and traffic enforcers to keep the place in order.

The high end and/or popular shops like Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors and Coach (to name some) even employed a simple crowd control system, stationing personnel by their doors to allow only two or so people to get in at a time (Gucci, I believe, hired security guards for this task), and had more than their usual stanchions inside their stores.

After hearing how long the people have been in queue at Gucci, Um and I withdrew. Are you kidding me? I do not even have to stand behind a velvet rope to get into a hot and happening club. No way I was standing in line for that! Maybe next year, though. Heehee.
