Music and Lyrics: First Train Home – Imogen Heap
Category Introduction: Ms B and I decided to start another category, Music and Lyrics (title inspired by the Drew Barrymore/Hugh Grant flick), where we’d post lyrics and/or videos of the songs that sort of speaks of how we feel about the day. Though I have a couple of specific genres I prefer to listen to, I pretty much can appreciate anything that is wonderfully written and/or have genius musical arrangement. This is very evident in the diversity of the songs that I blip.
I am very much in love with music. Perhaps that is why I married a man who is generously gifted with musical talents. LOL. He is my ultimate rock star. And I am his eternal groupie.

If you’re a friend on Facebook or if you’re following me on Twitter, you might have read me post excerpts from the lines of this song and/or its official music video. It’s my theme song since January. Six months and counting. I don’t know how many more months I’m going to endure this long distance marriage. There are days that I’m okay. But there are days that just make me feel like dying from all the yearning.
Imogen Heap is one of my favorite contemporary artists for obvious reasons. If you don’t listen to her music, I urge you to start now. She writes lyrics that would just make you nod or sigh in agreement and make you pause and feel the pain. She hits the nail right on the spot! And then there’s her mesmerizing voice that is just so kind to the ears and her wide vocal range that is nothing but impressive.
Anyway, here’s the official music video. Lyrics found below.
Got to get on it
Got to get on it
Got to get on it
Bodies disengaged, our mouths are fleshing over
It’s just an echo game, irises retreating to ovals of white
The urge to feel your face and blood rushing to paint my handprint
A Frisbee one by one, your vinyl on laminate
Desperate for some kind of contact
First train home, I’ve got to get on it
First train home, I’ve got to get on it
First train home, I’ve got to get on it
To Catch, to catch, catch catch catch
First train home, I’ve got to get on it
First train home, I’ve got to get on it
First train home, I’ve got to get on it
First Train home
Temporal deadzone where clocks are barely breathing
Yet no one cares to notice for all the yelling
All night clamor to hold it together
I want to play don’t wait forms in the hideaway
I want to get on with getting on with things
I want to run in fields, paint the kitchen and love someone
And I can’t do any of that here, can I?
First train home, I’ve got to get on it
First train home, I’ve got to get on it
First train home, I’ve got to get on it
First Train home
So what? You’ve had one too many
So what? I’m not that much fun to be with
So what? You’ve come silly hatter
So what? I didn’t want to come here, anyway
What matters you, doesn’t matter, matter to me
What matters to me, doesn’t matter, matter to you
What matters to you, doesn’t matter, matter to them
What matters to them, doesn’t change anything
Got to get on it first train home
Got to get on it first train home
First train home I’ve got to get on it
(I’ve got to get on it)
To catch, to catch, catch-catch, catch.
(First train home)
First train home I’ve got to get on it
First train home.
(First train home)
To go, to go, to go
Get, get, get, get
Out, out, out, out
Now, now, now, now
