Le Critique: Homemaker’s Toys: Samsung 3D LED TV 8000
I don’t know if a TV is really a homemaker’s toy as it does not help me make my home. But, I’m a homemaker, and this is Chef’s and my new toy. In truth I would say we’ve earned this TV. We’ve been living together for 4 years and since we moved in, we’ve always said we’d buy the TV that we wanted but something always became a priority – furniture, computers, weddings, trips. We watch enough TV – mostly news, movies we rent or FRIENDS dvds. So, this toy is a huge finally!
First, aesthetics. This latest Samsung TV creation is the slickest out there. That brushed titanium frame matches every other electronics and/or appliances we have. It’s such a clean design. Oh, and by the way, this is only less than an inch thick. That’s why I can’t wait to hang this. Once we get our bedroom walls painted, It’s going up on the wall. The stand is really slick too though so I don’t know. We’ll still think about it.
I remember when TVs were just about the size but seriously, buying this took two 3-hour sessions at Best Buy because there are so many factors now that separate a good TV from a great one. It ended up that the size became the simplest factor to decide on. Ok, 46″, that’s enough for us for the wall that it’s going up on. But then, there’s the picture quality. The latest out there is an LED, but then with all the 3D technology in the theaters these days, it was only a matter of time until that technology is brought to houses. Though we are not such fans of 3D, we used my classic “might as well” clause. “Well, we might as well get the 3D because we would never know when we would like to watch something in 3D.” Lame, probably, but with a niece and a nephew here, I am thinking it may be fun for kids. The choice of the 3D TV was made easier when Best Buy threw in the 3D started kit (a $300 value that included 2 3D glasses and How to Train Your Dragon) plus the BluRay player for free. More for picture quality are the resolution, which is 1080p, and the refresh rate of 24oHz, which is so fast that you do not see any trailing. Whatever. I don’t think I see any trailing on fast movements in any TV anyway. But apparently that’s fast.
I think it’s the Internet TV that made this worth it for me, especially I have Netflix and I do stream some movies to watch on my computer. How fabulous would that be to not have to watch on a bigger screen. With just a Samsung wireless adapter, our TV is hooked up to the internet just like that. Setting up was very easy. The Samsung Apps are great, which allowed me to tweet and check my brother’s photos on Facebook. There’s even some game apps and I can’t wait to show Lil HRH the built in memory game on the TV.
All in all, it was a great purchase. We finally have a TV that speaks our personality.
