Instant Messaging Concert
Okay, so I thought I’d blog something, err, big, but I got held up by my lovely Little Princess on Skype.
I find it really divine that both Um and I grew up in creative environments. There are artists, unsung poets and lyricists, writers, musicians from both our families. It’s not very surprising, then, that both Captain Awesome and Little Princess are growing up to share the same artistic interests. It’s the wirings. It’s normal. It’s life as we know it.
Little Princess, like most little girls, is now into the pop music. She called me up on Skype and started playing random songs that she kicked off with Taylor Swift’s You Belong With Me, which, by the way, she played maybe 4 or 5 times before she tired off and played a different song.
Luckily, her preschool gave Um mp3s of the songs that she sang during her Moving Up Day. She played them and sang along for me to listen. It wasn’t the real thing. I still missed the program, but this as-good-as-it-gets situation really made my day. She was definitely singing with her heart. I got reminded of how much I love the sound of her voice when she sings. I miss hearing her randomly belt out a tune while she’s busy with her artworks, with her kitchen toys, with whatever artistic she gets her hands on.
Um, who is an indie artist back home, is definitely a huge influence to the kiddos when it comes to music. Captain Awesome is starting to show a lot of interest in the guitar that Um bought for him on his 6th birthday. Little Princess used to experiment on beats with Um’s sister’s drum set.
One of my favorite philosophers, Friedrich Nietzsche, said, “Without music, life would be a mistake.”
That couldn’t be more true in our household. We’re music slaves and we love it!
My daughter’s pop concert is still in progress, which made me take 2 hours to finish this 300-something-word post. The fangirl mommy is now dancing to her daughter’s renditions of the High School Musical songs.
Gotta go bond with my girl. I hear daughters pull away from their mothers on their teenage years. I better savor moments like these…even if we’re -7,000 miles apart.
