Guilty Pleasure: iCarly

Parents usually know all these shows on Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, Cartoon Network and whatever networks that cater to kids because they watch these shows with their children. Every now and then, though, there are kiddie shows that attract adults – even those without children!  I believe this is not limited to TV shows, too. I mean, how many people went to see Shrek, Monsters, Inc., etc in theaters sans kiddos tagging along?

iCarly does it for me. It is my current ultimate guilty pleasure. I can watch it all day (but I probably should not…and I have not tried), even without any of my kids watching with me. It is just so colorful, upbeat and hyper that it gets me in a good mood. Yes, it is kind of slapstick and the actors are yelling most of the time, but you have got to admit, there IS some hint of good humor, too.

The show has garnered nominations and awards since it premiered in 2007, and it is obviously getting more and more popular with improving storylines and high profile guest stars. Jane Lynch recently graced the show with her presence as Sam’s irresponsible mother and boy, did she play the role impeccably? I laughed my heart out in that episode and I could not think of any other actress better suited for the part!

You can find information about the iSam’s Mom episode here, and a bunch of clips on YouTube, of course! :)

My favorite iCarly episode is still iGot a Hot Room. I was wowed by the details of the room and I am sure it is the kind of room that every teenager (at least the bright and shiny a la Carly Shay ones) would want to have. I actually cannot help but wish we could provide the Little HRH with a room like that!

Check out photos of the room here. Cute, eh?

There are other reasons why I love watching iCarly. One is that whenever I see Miranda Cosgrove, I feel like a proud momma. The world first came to know of her as Summer, the smart, goody-goody girl, in School of Rock starring Jack Black. We got to see her grow right before our eyes as Megan, the mischievous little sister of Drake and Josh.

The last reason is that it inspires me in a weird, inexplicable way. Seeing these child stars fulfill their acting dreams motivates me to do everything in my power and see to it that my children would live their dreams to – whatever they are.
