Guilty Pleasure: Hey, Jealousy!

Not that irrational, high-school-ish kind of thing from a partner, OK?. That’s just plain annoying. I gotta say, lucked out for marrying a man that is nothing like the jealous type.

What I’m talking about here is the one that my darling, Little HRH, shows whenever another child gets drawn to me — and, boy, I’m pretty popular with the kids…even way before I had children!

So, we were at Chef & B’s last weekend for Chef’s birthday. There was just a simple gathering of the two sides of the family, plus Chef’s long time friend, his wife & daughter, who is just about Little HRH’s age. I will call her the other Bolelyn girl, but don’t put any negative meaning into it. :)

We were so thrilled to find out that a little girl will be coming over. Little HRH is usually the only girl around since most of our friends have sons. With Little HRH now totally out of her shell, the two girls hit it off right away. They chatted, laughed, giggled, watched 3/4 of How to Train A Dragon (until they left me watching the movie alone) and ran around the house for whatever reason. They were getting along pretty well until the other Bolelyn girl sat on my lap when we were all watching the boys (Captain awesome & Chef’s nephews) beat each other up on modern warfare.

I can vividly remember every detail in slow motion: Little HRH’s eyes widening as the other Bolelyn girl descended on my lap, the former’s firm grasp of my arm with her head rested on my shoulder, with intent look atf my arm around the other Bolelyn girl. She kept whispering, “Mommy!”

I have got to hand it to my baby girl, though. She was so composed. She could say, don’t let her sit on your lap, but she didn’t because she knew that saying so would be unreasonable. Instead, she waited for an opportunity to box the other Bolelyn girl out and claimed her territory. As soon as she was in her rightful place (a.k.a. her mommy’s lap), though, she whispered, “you’re my mommy!”

OK, OK. So, this post is under our Guilty Pleasure series, but that doesn’t mean I am capitalizing on what may be a torturous feeling for my little girl. But, mommies, you got to admit, the possessiveness warms the heart. :)
