Promises

Um and I have been married for five years, but I still get drawn to engagement rings! Perhaps, it is because I still have not received mine from Um. LOL.

I remember when Ms B and Chef were still planning their civil wedding, I believe, two years ago. She sent me a link to a website where they have ordered the wedding rings that they have chosen. I looked at their rings for no longer than five minutes and spent two or more hours browsing through the website, checking out engagement rings and wedding bands, and thoroughly reading their descriptions.

Um and I, err, we unintentionally defy the “proper” order of affairs. Let us just put it that way. When we finally decided to get married, I was here in the States and he was in the Philippines. We were +/- 7,000 miles apart. That being said, the idea of getting down on one knee with an engagement ring via webcam is just not Um’s cup of tea. And then there’s paranoia. Sending a ring overseas in a package is just not safe enough.

Um says he still wants to get me my ring, though. I see how much he wants to whenever we pass by a jewelry store or see an ad in a magazine or whatnot. I would love him to, too, but not because I am one of those girls who are suckers for diamonds. I want to start a family heirloom! I know most sons inherit their mothers’ engagement or wedding rings when they propose to their girlfriends a la Prince William, but I would want my Little HRH to have mine. When a prince asks for our blessing to marry our daughter, and if we approve of their union, of course, I would happily give him the ring that my little princess’ father gave me.
